Thanks to the help of only the finest in European gallery installation staff, my show went up nearly without a hitch yesterday. The staff, seen in the above photo, included an Austrian, known for their systems and efficiency, and a Brit, known for working without complaint. This particular Brit came with fancy cred as he used to be a Exhibition Installation Technician at the Slade, a prestigious art college in London. Did I mention I had only the FINEST in imported labor? We finished up at 6:59, one minute before the shop was due to close, prompting this comment from the delighted barrista: “I love you guys!”
Two unanticipated problems came up. We’d made an error in calculating the room layout and had to squeeze two extra pieces on the back wall – but that was taken in stride by the staff and barely flapped them. My tags, which were printed on mylar, got smudged but I’ll run new ones on paper and hang them today after work.
At any rate the show is up and it looks GREAT. If you’re in Seattle head down to Cafe Verite to have a cupcake and to take a look. The show is up until the middle of June.
