Thank you.

I’m leaving for Thanksgiving festiviites is about half an hour, but I have a few minutes to post about what I’m thankful for. This is going to sound not very warm and fuzzy at first, but stick with me. This year, I am really thankful for technology and the wonders of the Internet. Why something so anonymous? Because it allows for all kinds of things.

Check it out:

  • Grace’s Hurricane Katrina Relief project let me do a good deed when I really wanted to help.
  • I get to see my far away husband every morning via Web cam.
  • Using Internet tools I published – and sold – my little book, Baked Insanity.
  • I get to stay in touch with friends California, Ireland, England, Austria, Germany, Italy, Mexico…
  • I find work and it finds me. I’ve written for Snowshoe Magazine for a year now and never laid eyes on the people that publish it. And my favorite people at eHome can keep me working when I’m across the ocean instead of just across the lake.
  • Craig’s List helped me find – yet again – a delightful person to take my home for the winter. She’s in Bonn, Germany, and I’m in Seattle. Like that would have happened without the Web.
  • Both my shows this year were organized through email contacts.
  • I can list more.

See? Lots of good things. So I’m full of gratitude for the fine things that technology and the Internet bring to my life. Not so dorky and anonymous when you get in to the details of it, eh? Don’t think I don’t understand that the technologies are a tool. All the same, I am grateful for what my access to these tools has allowed me to accomplish this year.

Also, don’t mistake this for being the ONLY thing I’m thankful for. There is SO much more. But in this format, here on the Nerd’s Eye View blog, it seems fitting to mention just how freakin’ great I think this stuff is and how thankful I am for it.

Cue the Dido. And thank you.

    1. Amen! It amazes me when I stop and think about it how a Luddite like me can have such a toehold in technology…and still feel like a Luddite. 😉 I’m so thankful for the connections I’ve made along the way….and you’re right at the top of the list, Pam.
