Fish Wednesday, Solstice Edition

Fish Wednesday, Solstice EditionThis special edition of Fish Wednesday found us ignoring all the health benefits of the day and heading over to Ballard’s Totem House Fish and Chips. What better way to celebrate the arrival of summer than eating fried food outside?

After filling ourselves with carbs and fat, we headed over to Golden Gardens to join a handful of friends and hundreds of strangers in watching the sun go down. Around 9pm, we all faced north and howled and cheered and clapped as the sun, which cares not one bit for the antics of a bunch of hippies on a Seattle beach, slipped below the horizon.

Solstice SunsetWe drove home under a translucent aquamarine sky. The color is like no sky I’ve seen anywhere else on the planet and is one of the reasons I love to be in Seattle when summer comes. And this morning, right on cue, the sun is out and there isn’t a cloud in sight.

There’s a small set of pics here.

  1. For some reason, your solstice post just reminded me… I think I might be in Vegas when you are! My mother wanted me to spend half my summer break at her place and ‘work’ for her. I’ll spare you the details…but flat out told her no. Compromised and said I’d come for a week, but had to have some ‘fun’ mixed in with ‘work’ (why in quotes, you ask?…later…) 🙂 I’m driving down…probably leave the 10th. When do you leave? I’ll be in N. Vegas…would love to hook up if even just for a moment…I could come to the city proper…(hopefully sans maternal unit). 🙂
