A month or two back I ordered a sport uke, a little Flea to take camping and on airplanes and leave in the hot car when I’m on some epic road trip. Yesterday I picked up my mango colored travel companion. The strings are slipping a little coz they’re new, but this little guy sounds okay and plays rather nicely for a plastic uke. And it matches my kitchen.
Here it is pretending to be a early Georges Braque painting: Orange uke with blue coffee cup. The uke doesn’t have a name yet but I’m thinking of calling it Georges Braque.
And in case you’re wondering, currently on the playlist are Death Cab’s “I’ll follow you into the dark” and The Band’s classic “The night they drove old Dixie down.” I’m trying to decide what to play at the upcoming SUPA picnic.

I took an advanced ukulele class from James Hill down at the Portland uke festival last month. He taught the class using a Flea. So you couldn’t say well I can’t play this ‘cuz my uke’s not as fancy as his.
