My friend K. and I have had several successful photo excursion days. We get in the car and head out to …somewhere, not anywhere specific, to shoot photos of… something, nothing in particular.
K. is a fine photographer and has been doing some nice work with a Lens Baby on his Nikon, I was psyched to try it out. I achieved very mixed results – my broader landscape shots are totally uninteresting, most of the tighter, smaller shots have no good focal point, many are overexposed as I was completely flummoxed by the metering.
The light was gray and even, perfect for detail but offering little by way of contrast. I got some success at the Pagoda at Point Defiance Park, the sharp red against the bright green helped, the reflection from the pond brought the light up…
I love that digital photography makes it so easy for me to fail and yet, keep trying. A wasted shot is never wasted, it’s just the bookends to the shot I was hoping to find.

That photo of the pagoda is smashing. How big can you print that?

I had a wonderful mentor back when I was learning to shoot on film. Her rule of thumb: if she got one really fabulous shot on a roll of 24 she was doing really well. Clearly you were beating the odds that day!
Wow, I love that pagoda shot – it looks like a little jewel in the water.
The Lens Baby worked well in the case of the pagoda! Planning a photo safari is a great idea.
I bow to your photographic prowess. I’d like to learn how to take pictures some day (maybe when the kids are in college).
I think the photo of the heron is my favorite.
I just made the comment elsewhere about how you don’t worry about “wasting” shots with the digital camera. You go ahead and shoot, and if you fail, it’s easy to just shoot another shot…or a few more shots…in hopes of getting the shot you really wanted to shoot in the first place (try saying that quickly five times) 🙂
Great shot, BTW
Great photo! I LOVE my lens baby…it makes those typical shots (everyone has a shot of the Eiffel Tower, but not everyone has one with a lens baby!)look so cool.
Ooh, I do think that sharp red color really makes it pop out! Lovely!
