Wonderfully told story. It was rich with nostalgia and hope and reverence for the life of a son’s father. Thanks.
Frustrating! Great video but I wanted to find Carmelita. He must be able to track her down somehow!
Actually, the story continues… http://www.onthewhiteline.com/2010/01/there%E2%80%99s-something-about-a-small-town/
I just returned from the library in a nearby town, where my boys have begun playing in a chess club on Tuesday afternoons. Last week, I had picked up a book called “Unexplained Mysteries of World War II,” which is a series of stories relating unexplained happenings and coincidences relating to the war.
Today, as I continued my reading, I came across a story that had a familiar piece to it. Entitled “A Lifesaving Candy Bar,” the mention of Ajo, Arizona, caught my eye. It describes the actions of three soldiers in the Apennine Mountains, but it only mentions one by name: Staff Sergeant Charles Corella.
If I’d read this story last week, the name would have meant nothing to me, but this week, having seen this post, it certainly did.
How’s that for a coincidence in reading a book about coincidences?
Talk about timing. I’m so glad you shared the experience… and how very appropriate that this post appeared shortly before you came to that story.
Funny thing is that I think that’s the book Charlie’s daughter Mary Ann gave us when we met her in January.
Really awsome,he was me uncle and it brought back great memories of a great man. thank you
