I recently upgraded my phone to an iPhone 4s. It irritates me to no end that I am hopelessly attached to this inanimate object and what it allows me to do — find bakeries, pester my friends from anywhere there’s a signal, find obscure facts to resolve arguments. I worked with a woman who used to say “… and, it bakes me chocolate chip cookies!” about her phone. It took me a long time to get a data enabled phone — I did not want to, it made me feel like a sucker to the cellular industrial complex. I especially did not want to get an Apple device; I did not want to join the Cult of Jobs, I hated the idea that I might turn into one of those people.
Yeah, that’s all over. God help me, I love my stupid iPhone. And the camera in it is freaking terrific. Here are some pictures I shot with it while on the Washington Coast during this first weekend in March. These are all straight shots, no filters, no post processing. If you’d like to take a peak at the other photo work I do using Instagram (an iPhone app that lets you apply filters and effects to your pictures), you can take a look at those, here.

I too just upgraded to the iPhone 4S, but from a 3GS. Still, it’s so much better. As you may recall, I’m into photography (the DSLR type), and frankly, I did not get what all the hype was about with mobile photography. Until now. Yes, the 4S is awesome! I now get it! All of the apps are really cool too! Of course, I’m not saying it’s going to replace my DSLR, however, I’m finding that it IS replacing my Sony Cybershot ‘snapshot’ camera. Oh, and yeah, and it’s also an appendage to my body!
Loved this post – almost word-for-word how I would describe my relationship with my iPhone, which I did NOT want when I received it as a gift. I took it to Italy along with 2 “real” cameras, but I came home with 2000 photos on my iPhone. The quality is stunning.
Now you need an Olloclip: http://store.apple.com/us/product/H7758LL/A
This lense is truly amazing – the macro feature blows me away.
Have fun – oh, and I love our photos as well!
